shewho: (cheese!)

MORE PORRIDGE

today i had porridge again with curried cabbage, but also with feta cheese.

it was alright. i think a different cheese would have been preferable, but the feta is at work and needs eating. (NO WASTE!)

***

i have not thought of an appropriate thing to give up for lent this year.
(2009 = meat
2008 = ? hmmm i can't remember takeaways (thanks tinytear!)
2007 = pints)

it will not be porridge

[identity profile] tiny-tear.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
was 2008 takeaways, i have a vague memory of you being desperate for one

[identity profile] shewho.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
oooh yes i think you're right! good memory!

[identity profile] dj-alexander.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
You gave up pints in 2007? How do you buy milk?

[identity profile] shewho.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
by the cow.

(for 'pints' read 'cider and beer'. this was the year i discovered WINE OBLITERATION.)

[identity profile] dj-alexander.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a bit pretentious. I like it!

[identity profile] suicideally.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Milk cartons have been litres and half litres since before 2007, haven't they?

[identity profile] dj-alexander.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I just bought a pint of milk. It says 568 ml on the side, but they're fooling no-one.

[identity profile] suicideally.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, right, I thought they were in fully metric now! You're right, 568ml is just pretending to be metric.

[identity profile] dj-alexander.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
To be fair I had a look at the Tesco website and it seems that the exotic milk (Cravendale, Yeo Valley etc) is all by the litre now, but the regular stuff is still by the pint (568ml, 1.136/2.272/3.408 ltr).

I doubt we'll ever truly give up on pints. It'll be like living in France, and nobody really wants that.

[identity profile] suicideally.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought briefly about giving up alcohol for Lent, but about 2 seconds later I thought 'nah'.

[identity profile] shewho.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
same here. i'm sort of kind of having a dry february anyway, so considered extending it. we shall see!

[identity profile] charleston.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
So did I but then remembered I'm going to Lisbon in two weeks time (that won out over Morocco in the end) and can't possibly go to Portugal without drinking port, that woudl be stupid!

[identity profile] tiny-tear.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
in Lisbon go to an old man's bar and try Ginginha... a sort of cherry liqueur... i think there is a place near Rossio (a quite central square) that has it...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ginjinha

http://www.10best.com/Lisbon,Portugal/Nightlife/Bars/19723/Ginginha_do_Rossio_Lisbon_PT/

[identity profile] tiny-tear.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I left Lisbon 10 years ago so not too up to date with what's more in right now, but if you want any tips ask away...

(the Bairro Alto is still the area to go for bars and restaurants though... that much I know...)

[identity profile] green-badger.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, yes, definitely go there. It's the tiniest bar ever! Also, mmmm, Ginginha! You can order it with or without the cherries in.

[identity profile] tiny-tear.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I am actually a weird Portuguese who doesn't like either Port (apart from white port and lemonade) or Ginginha, but I know most of my friends like them so I recommend it
:-)

[identity profile] exliontamer.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Cheese mwahahahaha.

[identity profile] shewho.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
it's too late for that, i ate some today! PHEW!

(so, er, how IS the veganism going, eh? :P)

[identity profile] exliontamer.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Very well, thanks! It's meant I've been eating lots of fruits and vegetables which is making me feel virtuous.

[identity profile] mrs-leroy-brown.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I am giving up cheese! FEAR ME.

Also, filth.

I am so pious!

[identity profile] shewho.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
for lent, or for good? i am not strong enough to give up cheese!

(does plastic cheese count?)

[identity profile] mrs-leroy-brown.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
For Lent, and then possibly for good with the occasional Rubbish Vegan moment (if it is rly good quality organical Borough Market cheese).

Plastic cheese counts too! I wonder how long I'll last.

[identity profile] hoshuteki.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
GIVE UP LENT.

zing!

[identity profile] shewho.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
PARADOX!

[identity profile] green-badger.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Give up wine? Or is that too shocking?

Or, instead of giving something up, why not take up an exercisey thing? xxx

[identity profile] shewho.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
yesbut i'm already kind of doing that!

and exercise would require time and or money. no no.

[identity profile] green-badger.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
You are giving up wine? What sort of freak are you? xxx

[identity profile] green-badger.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Or how about giving up mid-week drinking? xxx

[identity profile] charleston.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
How about wanking?

[identity profile] charleston.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
that icon is highly irregular

[identity profile] exliontamer.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
OH GOD I'd forgotten about that. Hahahaha!

[identity profile] stoopidbird.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Give up FUN.

[identity profile] shewho.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
what... is... FUN?

[identity profile] amuchmoreexotic.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
How about mince?

[identity profile] shewho.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
in porridge? or to give up?

it could work. would need something saucy with it, i imagine. a postcard of some boobs

[identity profile] amuchmoreexotic.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, I mean in porridge - giving up mince would be too easy.

2月中に、東京で話し合いをしましょうね。
必ず。

[identity profile] friend-of-tofu.livejournal.com 2010-02-19 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
What about caffeine? [livejournal.com profile] alextiefling has given that up again (it was his 2009 Lenten discipline as well) and had a couple of crap days but seems to be on good form.

[identity profile] shewho.livejournal.com 2010-02-19 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
ah, see, i rarely drink coffee (it messes me up!) and don't like coke etc. i drink green and white teas only. so probably not!

[identity profile] friend-of-tofu.livejournal.com 2010-02-19 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
He's given up chocolate too, ftb small amounts of caffeine. Maybe just give up chocolate? Or cake? Or some similar indulgence?

[identity profile] shewho.livejournal.com 2010-02-19 10:19 am (UTC)(link)
heh, i feel all virtuous now. don't eat chocolate because i don't like it (cue chorus of WEIRDO) and rarely eat cake.

i think the ultimate challenge would have been cheese, but i am not that strong. and, er, my lunches next week are broccoli and blue cheese soup.

i think i may try giving up buying lunches during the work week. i've managed so far!

[identity profile] friend-of-tofu.livejournal.com 2010-02-19 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
That's a good one, you'll live much more money left at the end of the month!

[identity profile] friend-of-tofu.livejournal.com 2010-02-19 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
(I never in my life drink coffee, so that bit wouldn't be useful to me either. But caffeine, hm, I do do a bit of that.)
(reply from suspended user)

zumba fitness someone?

(Anonymous) 2011-02-09 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I have been wondering if anyone here heard about the [url=http://zumba-reviews.com]zumba reviews[/url] . Apparently it is supposed to be considered a better alternative to regular training since it is fun and exciting. I'd be happy if anyone who used it can please reply and share a feedback as i am really thinking of trying it out and want to have a simple idea from individuals who used it before I actually do. Thx!
