so last night i did venture to the west end (which was full of screaming TRL morons - who is it that is there again?) to see Acorn Antiques- the Musical. It wasn't a bingo night.
And my oh my, I wasn't expecting much, but it was rather marvellous! The general gist is some am dram group (oh! how I wryly laughed) putting on a show so you get the behind the scenes action in the first half, and the actual thing in the second half.
it may be because Neil Morrissey was dressed as a goth, or it may have been because it *Was* stupidly faux pretensious and funnier, but I preferred the first half. It was ace. And Neil Morrissey was standing no more than a metre or so away shouting at the stage, and my perverse teenage heart skipped a beat.......
of course, all you in fact need is the amazing Julie Walters to appear onstage as Mrs Overall, and *anything* is automatically funny! The woman is a genius! It must be hugely hard to be so bad and inept when you aren't, if you see what I mean.
I was *not* impressed with Duncan whats-his-face who really didn't know half of the words to the musical numbers. It noticed, and was terribly unprofessional.
Hahahahaha the rip offs of Les Mis and A Chorus Line (amongst others I probably didn't notice) had to be seen to be believed!
I shall go see this again if anyone fancies, oh and
green_badger sorry it didn't quite work out as planned, Dan's mum got tickets unexpectedly fast, in fact so wrong was it I had to sit a couple of rows behind them)
