some of my friends are black people.....
Aug. 10th, 2004 08:50 ami watched that documentary last night, that i cannot remember the name of at the moment, fronted by Darcus Howe. Looking into black on black and asian/black racist attitudes.
to be honest, i can't believe the man was so shocked by what he found. just because people are oppressed by another people it doesn't make them some sort of martyr and good and right, in fact, i am certain it makes them want to do the same to another, different type of person in order to feel better about themselves.
but then, maybe i am more of a pessimist about human nature than Mr Howe.
I was not shocked by the vicious war between 2nd/3rd generation west indians and 1st generation somalian immigrants. these people have been brought up here. i would expect some to show the same little englander mentality that their forefathers fought against. but then, that is my hobbsian view of people again.
nasty, and not to be trusted. and all as prejudiced as each other.
all in all, quite interesting to see the extent of things, but Darcus and his crotchety old grandad persona irritate me far too much.
and on a lighter note, i am ravenous! already! man! i'll never last until half one.....
(i have a tasty dairylea/spam/marmite/cucumber sarnie combo in my bag. does anyone else love eating random combinations of food? or am i vile?)
