6. wordwatching - alex horne

you know i love words, right? and also comedy? brilliant combination. alex horne is lovely. he is a BIG OLD GEEK and plays the french horn. i saw the 1hr edinburgh show related to this book a couple of years back and blinking loved it.

basically, he (and some carefully selected chums) made up / reappropriated some words and are trying to get them into the actual dictionary. it can be done, there is precedent, as the highly entertaining appendix demonstrates.

anyway, this book is certainly not bollo, and if you've seen me sniggering to myself repeately on the tube in the mornings it's *not* because i've been on a mental safari or anything, it's just very funny indeed.

Book 6 already? man. I'm still half way through my first of this year.

it is week 6 of this year, innit. and i've not been too hungover to read, a lot of the time. which can only be a good thing.

Man, I guess it is. Time! flying! etc.

Also, my book is (a) v rich & to be savoured slowly (b) a big hardback which I don't always feel like taking to work.

there you go, mine have all been hand-baggable paperbacks and quite lightweight reading. apart from wizard of oz. which, as we all know, is terribly heavyweight.

Oh, that was such a good show! But I liked it most for the bits where he interacted with himself on different screens, and I read Birdwatchingwatching and found it quite dull (though he is clearly lovely). Does this one work as a book?

ah, see, i haven't read Birdwatchingwatching, though did see the relevant show which was also excellent. this one definitely works as a book, seeing as the project was actually so much more than the show. and books are made of words, not birds, which gives it an advantage, probably!
