I looked it up on Google and after I found this exact thread on page 3 I gave up....

I think Bristols might be a wartime thing. I think the big turrets on a ship would have pairs of sticky-out gun barrels and they were made by a company called Bristol.

Actually I reckon I completely made that up, after a little research. I think the Bristol City rhyme is a retrofit after the fact though.
