i suppose i should belatedly mark this news.

though i've never been of the ilk to believe he's been hiding in goa, or whatever, i did harbour random fantasies of recognising a john doe that'd been brought into my casualty (when i was still a medic in training) and becoming great friends.

oh dear.

right then, the kids. it's the manics at the brixton academy tuesday and wednesday next week. i know i have company on the tuesday, but who else is going to be around? it seems a lot of youse are changing your minds about it and not coming any more, boo.

***

in other gig news, where the flip are my springsteen tickets? more to the point, my msp wednesday ticket is still awol and all. hmmm.

***

in other, other news, an apple STILL isn't a proper dinner, and barmen who persuade you to have tequila as a coffee substitute are EVIL and i am weak.

which is to say clockwork comedy was ace last night (luke roberts, tony law, paul trap / alan bennett, tomi walla-something, richard herring) but my meal of tequila was a slippery slope to The Drunk, and my sleepy imbibing of pro-plus was possibly foolish, leading to me not only talking stupid nonsense, but doing so fast and repeatedly. you'd think somehow the tired and the drunk and the caffeine would cancel each other out, but oh no, overexcitable drivel. i shouldn't be allowed to talk to people. EVER. except early on when being sensible on the door, because cheeky banter managed to get 4 chaps attempting to SING me the magic password in harmony. sweet! this was my favourite thing. well, almost. probably my favourite thing was watching people enjoy themselves whilst they were watching something they don't usually enjoy. hah, work your way through THAT sentence if you can!

***

in FINANCIAL RUIN news, i appear to have a couple of hundred quid to last until the end of the month, and haven't bought a single chrimbo present yet. i did, however, probably drink the equivalent of several presents last night. idiot.

Bad: forgetting to have any brekkie.

Good: free ‘girlie bags’ at Liverpool Street Station – including fruity cereal bar!

[Although quite why the bags are just for girls, I don’t know. Without wanting to come across all [livejournal.com profile] publicansdecoy on you (sorry PD! I love you really!) what is about having a Y chromosome that means you won’t want to eat cereal bars? Or drink fruit juice? Admittedly you probably wouldn’t want to wear Ghost eau de toilette, or tan whilst moisturising, but then neither do I.]

Actually, I’ve never seen anyone handing out ‘man bags’. (Heh, manbags!) Have you? What would / does go in a man bag? I had brekkie anyway, I shouldn’t complain.

Weird: I was dreaming about Fall Out Boy last night. In particular, being abroad somewhere and trying to go into a café for some coffee, only to find it rammed with FOB fans as they were doing some sort of secret gig. And I had to step over Pete Wentz to get to the horribly nasty toilets. Then they all cleared off and I could sit down.

I don’t know what this is telling me, apart from maybe I’ve been reading a bit too much [livejournal.com profile] icedmaple of late ;)

Anyway, who’s going to tell me about the Manics at the Shepherds Bush Empire then? Surprises? Treats? &c? Anyone?

Manicsfans! Look! I found Indie Fringe and his band (A Boy Called Wolf it would appear) on myspace!

Oh shush.

(He’s not bad actually. ‘Town of Mice’ is rather good indeed, in fact. I love that expansive sound on the intro. He’s a bit early-on-the-bill-early-in-the-day-ATP-esque. I'd watch them. And he writes a good blog. Jolly good!)

Right. Stop. Spamming. The. Internets.

ARGH!!! Iron Maiden are playing the Brixton Academy at the end of June!!! But it's 40 quid. WILL EVERYONE I WANT TO SEE STOP ANNOUNCING GIGS NOW plskthxby.

(Anyone fancy it?)

That really is all from me today. Honest.

Is this a cynical ploy to appease the CoR fanbase? A call to arms for the leopard print massive?

I don't know, and I don't care. I can't stop listening. And, er, identifying. FMF.

Autumnsong. Chopped for repetitive <s>beats</s> nature. )

It’s been a morning submersed in music. Wonderful, lovely music.

On the train into work this morning I finally decided to stop listening to the iPod on shuffle, and got up the courage to listen to the new Manic Street Preachers album, seeing as the gigs are rapidly approaching. And oh my word! What happened? It’s actually rather good. This I was not expecting. I can hold my head up high and say I like them for the first time in a while. I wasn’t listening too closely (distracted by the book below) so can’t really say too much, except I did have to stop and do *nothing* else whilst listening to the wonderful Autumnsong with it’s beautiful Bradders soaring guitar lines and excellent solos, and am also loving Winterlovers (heh, I see a seasonal theme!) with the deliberately rough-edged backing vocals in a 60s girl group style. Marvellous! The ‘secret’ track too, ah, wonderful wonderful work. Ranting. Almost a dark surf vibe. Very happy indeed! Imperial Bodybags, however, lived up to my fears. I should stick with my not-listening-to-lyrics-but-revelling-in-music principles. Nicky, Nicky, Nicky….

And speaking of Nickys / Nikkis (!) the book that kept distracting me is of course The Dirt, Motley Crue biog. It hasn’t even got particularly filthy and wrong yet, but is compulsive reading. I almost missed my bus stop. I don’t even particularly like the Crue that much either. Hopefully I won’t get as carried away with this book as much as I normally do, otherwise I’ll be fvcking girls all over the place and have really scary hair. You’ll know.

***

Also decided to give The Devastations a listen, now ATP is fading in my memory… :(

[livejournal.com profile] p_dan_tic is right, yes, the album doesn’t really show what they can do like the live experience does. But the songs are still lovely, albeit in a different way. And in places you can fill in the noise and guitars with your mind, at least, I can see (remember?) where they came in on some of the tracks. I’ve been listening to some new demos on myspace as well, which are different again. Very mellow. Soundtrack-like. Hmmm.

***

Prince Rogers Nelson! I *shall* be going to the ball. 17th August, 02 Arena. HELL YEAH.

[I’m not going to count up the amount of stadium sized gigs I shall be attending this year, for I fear the indie snob buried deep inside me would be Very Disappointed Indeed. Still, OMG! 2 weeks today I shall be getting ridiculously excited about MEAT LOAF in the evening! EEEE!]

***

Netiquette / Text-iquette (?) I almost always (unless I *really* don’t know or like you. Or I’m too drunk to function) sign off my emails and texts with a ‘xxx’. There’s no implication attached. It’s mostly force of habit. (More than 3 probably means you have done something spectacularly good!)

But do you read anything into it? Do you feel obliged to respond with a ‘x’? Even if you wouldn’t normally?

I’m not *worried*, just curious…..

EDIT: I am a spanner. Comments re-enabled. Disabling was completely unintentional. Doh.

Dear the internet, I am feeling ridiculously out of sorts and tearful this morning. I am well aware this is due to a deadly combination of post-weekenditis (which always does tend to hit me on Tuesdays), stupid hormones, and general situations, but there's not much I can do about that at the moment, so you're going to have to be nice to me instead.

****

Other than that, you should all listen to Mark Watson's radio show (BBC4) which is brilliant. Well, seeing it recorded live is brilliant, I haven't heard the edit, but I would predict a lot of goodness. Tims Key and Minchin are adorable.

****

Quick catch up with a good friend tonight after work. Shall endeavour not to weep on her shoulder. No wine for me!

****

I still have 2 spare Manics tickets for the Forum on 29th May. I think first dibs go to wilteddaffodial / stephens if you want them, then suicideally, but I already have some for me, and am not quite schizophrenic enough to pass off as 3 people.......

****

(Oh yeah, comments screened because I hate it when I'm whiny.)
